How you prayed

Recently, the kids' Sentinel invited you to tell about how you prayed for survivors of Hurricane Katrina and what else you did to help (September 26, 2005). Four Sunday School students from First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Glendale, Arizona, helped by joining fundraisers for the people in the hurricane and donating items that were needed, such as soap and toothpaste. But they also realized how important it was to keep praying. And they had a great idea. They decided to say a prayer every day for the people in need, using some of the prayers they know, such as the Lord's Prayer or the Daily Prayer. From the Manual of The Mother Church, p. 41 .

Our Sunday School class was concerned about the people who were in Hurricane Katrina. We talked about how God is always present to help everyone and how God meets all our needs because He loves us. We memorized Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (p. 494).

It helped us also to think about things we were thankful for. We realized that many people were coming together with food, shelter, clothing, and love to help the hurricane survivors have their needs met. This showed the love and caring in our country and around the world.
