WHO GOVERNS YOU?

DO YOU EVER GET ANGRY with government? There seems to be a lot of that going around these days. In the United States, many people are upset with their government about the Iraq war. The slow federal response to Hurricane Katrina drew wide criticism. And there's rampant disgust with a recent US Supreme Court decision that narrowed private property rights.

Such deep resentment has existed throughout history. In ancient Egypt, the Pharaohs were so brutal that the children of Israel fled across the Red Sea. In the 20th century, the anger of the entire free world welled up against the rulers of Nazi Germany.

Yet the Bible promises us something better. The prophet Isaiah says, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (Isa. 9:6).
