Why inertia is not the final law
A book can start with the impulse to jot one word on a blank screen or a piece of paper. A new career can begin with a moment of self-examination and a first step toward change. A healing can come as a single spiritual insight dawns and anxiety dissolves.
Everyone has good beginnings of one kind or another. Think about all those New Year's resolutions, or, at the other end of the scale, the various peace "processes" launched in the Middle East. But what keeps good beginnings from having good endings? In a word, it's often inertia.
