I HEAR GOD CALLING ME ...
About six weeks ago, I met an inmate I'll call Miguel. He is incarcerated at the Suffolk County Jail in Boston, and he had signed up in the jail for a one-to-one meeting with a Christian Science chaplain. I am one of two Spanish-speaking Christian Science chaplains serving at this facility, and Miguel was on my list for that week.
On that snowy Saturday morning when Miguel and I had our first meeting, I really hadn't felt like taking the morning to drive to the jail. But my prayers and my commitment to this chaplaincy urged me out of my warm bed to make the trek downtown.
After the usual series of ID checks, waiting for doors to slide open and shut, I was let into the attorney room, where I meet on Saturdays with inmates to talk about God.
