Leaping forward to help
Whatever You do, don't miss Margaret Rogers's leap into the spirit of volunteerism this week (page 6).
Volunteerism is everywhere! People of all ages and backgrounds are finding or making time to visit, listen to, walk with, read to, pray with others, without expecting anything in return.
Even giant corporations—some of which have had a bad rap lately—like to see evidence of volunteering on a prospective employee's résumé. For example, many of the "Big Brothers" and "Big Sisters" you see taking kids from deprived or dysfunctional homes to a ballgame have already spent 70 hours or more that week in busy offices or classrooms, yet are still making time to give the kids a treat. Many have MBAs, MDs, PhDs, and a heap of other qualifications—plus hearts as big as a baseball diamond.
