Healed of pain and ready to help

Although I had been happily finishing the rest of my term as a church board member, I realized that I was most likely going to be elected as the chairman. This just felt overwhelming. I wanted to help, but I didn't think I had the capability to take on the extra responsibilities. But because I was the only person eligible, it looked as if I would have to take the position.

Over several weeks, as I thought about the likelihood of my being elected, I began to become more and more stressed out. It had gotten to the point that I was worrying about it all the time. On the weekend before the election some friends invited my wife and me up to their mountain cabin. This was to be a getaway weekend for us all to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

However, on Sunday morning, I woke up feeling terrible. I had a bad headache, and was weak and dizzy. Besides the pain, I was still concerned about the election coming up on Monday night. Instead of going to church with our friends, my wife and I left for home—I was just feeling too miserable to stay. Having grown up a Christian Scientist, I have always trusted prayer for healing. And this time was no exception. As my wife drove, we talked about spiritual concepts, and I know both of us were praying to see that God was in control of my life—including my well-being.
