'God saved me'
Originally published in Le Héraut de la Christian Science
On the day of my mother's funeral in July 1999, I suddenly lost consciousness in the early hours after feeling sharp pains first in my stomach and then in my chest.
When I fainted, one of my sisters called those who were nearby, and laid me down on a mat in order to care for me.
As one can imagine, this was grief heaped upon grief. Everybody had a comment to make. An accusing finger was quickly pointed at witchcraft, which is practiced extensively in African countries.
