'Sing unto the Lord, all the earth'
Recently I sampled CD recordings made by church soloists in New York, St. Louis, and San Francisco.
The husband and wife team of Julia Wade and Peter Link have collaborated on a CD titled Upon the Mountain that offers 12 new inspirational songs firmly rooted in the Bible. They tell me they spent many hours discussing the Bible stories and texts that had affected them most deeply and that they felt they could present in a way that would enrich the lives of others, too.
The resulting CD is a blend of classical, folk, and pop traditions, with orchestra and chorus. Guest artist Rongchun Zhao adds a subtle Eastern flavor to the title song "Upon the Mountain" with his accompaniment on a small two-stringed Chinese instrument called the erhu (pron. AR-hoo).
