CHURCH LIVES
'A Church of healers'
I Remember Sitting In Church when I was a little girl and wondering, "If Jesus could heal, and his disciples could heal, why didn't the disciples teach someone else how to heal so it would continue?" I'd learned in my religious classes that the healings in the Bible were for a special time and were no longer possible. But it was a question I still had.
When I was about eight, I made friends with a girl whose mom would talk to me about healing the way Jesus healed. I later found out that she practiced Christian Science healing. Whenever I would mention feeling sick or upset about something, she would gently suggest that I didn't have to accept those feelings. She explained how I could challenge them the way Jesus had.
Eventually she gave me a copy of Science and Health. But reading the first sentence in chapter one, I couldn't understand what the author was talking about, so I put the book down.
