Complete recovery from back injury

One Friday afternoon several years ago, I was alone in the house, standing on a chair in the dinning room, hanging curtains I'd taken down to wash. As I reached up to place the curtain back on its rod, I lost my balance and fell heavily to the floor on my back. The pain was intense, and I was unable to get up. So, in prayer, I turned to God for help.

The first thing that came to my aid was "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health (p. 468). I thought carefully about each part of that statement, which says that God, or Spirit, alone is real, and that God's child, or image, is therefore spiritual, not material. These facts in particular brought home to me my closeness to God and helped me see that because my real being was spiritual, I couldn't be injured or outside of His care.

A short time later, my husband, Ian, arrived home from work. When he found me lying on the floor, he also immediately began to pray, and tried to help me up. But the pain in my back was still too great for me to be moved, and I asked him to phone a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. Ian and I have been Christian Scientists since we were teenagers. We both fully trusted the power of prayer to heal me.
