A spiritual feast
When our editorial team first decided to offer some spiritual perspectives on obesity, we couldn't even guess how much space other magazines would be giving to it.
The June 7 issue of TIME allocated 33 pages, plus a lot of advertising space, to a report rooted in the finding that two-thirds of adults in the United States are officially overweight—as are one-sixth of children between six and 19. In August, Oprah magazine gave 30 pages to the subject, and National Geographic gave it 17 pages. The October issue of Shape magazine ran 25 pages on the threat of obesity—and how to beat it through exercise and good eating habits. It gave an especially interesting statistic that 46 percent of the food people eat in the US comes from restaurants—usually in huge calorie-loaded helpings that they feel obliged to devour because it's in front of them and they've paid for it!
We have restricted our coverage to just 10 pages in modest helpings that are not carbo-loaded, but rich in spiritual ingredients that will bring healing perspectives to what is increasingly seen to be a disturbing epidemic.
