Unchanging Love in a world of change

When I first began attending services at a Church of Christ, Scientist, I was introduced to many hymns that were new to me. I loved their messages and would find inspiring phrases that promised good. These ideas brought me comfort and gave me hope that things in my life would be getting better. One of these phrases that meant a lot to me was "No change my heart shall fear" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 148).

At that time, since there were so many things that needed to change in my life, I interpreted the phrase to mean that I didn't need to be afraid that those changes wouldn't come. Later, I realized that this phrase, in context with the rest of the hymn, meant something quite different. The beginning of the verse reads,
