Through a spiritual lens—TREK THROUGH NEPAL

Whenever I'm among rugged mountains, my thoughts expand. They take off and soar. And I'm reminded of the vastness and beauty and power of God's creation.

During a trek in the Himalaya mountains of Nepal, I again had this experience. After an 11-hour scramble over one of the world's highest passes—the 18,000-foot Thorung La—my companion and I descended from its lunar landscape of scree and snow into what appeared to be a breathtakingly beautiful yet barren valley.

In this region, bordering on the legendary Kingdom of Mustang, we were amazed to find bountiful apple orchards. As we approached the outskirts of the medieval village of Kagbeni, we took great delight in the sight of woven baskets brimming with ripe, juicy apples.
