Boy healed of play injury

Originally published in Der Christian Science Herold

My son Mark was at his friend's house for a birthday party. Four girls and six boys were there. It got pretty wild. Toward the end of the party, they played "girls-get-boys tag." And that's when it happened. Mark didn't want to get caught by a girl. He wasn't at all careful, and ran with full force face-first against one of those huge stone flower containers.

It must have hurt a lot. Mark tried to be brave. He really wanted to just go home. But his friends' parents wanted to take him to the hospital right away because his cheek was torn open and bleeding so badly.

I'm Mark's mother, and I heard about this after Mark was already on the way to the hospital. Our family always turns to God and prays, no matter what happens. And I did this when I heard about the accident. I was very sure that Mark had always been protected and cared for by God, no matter how bad the situation looked. I knew that even when everyone around me was upset, I could think strengthening, uplifting, comforting thoughts, and remain calm. Divine Love, or God, is closer to us than even a mommy can be to her child. That's to some extent how I was praying—thinking in that way—because I wanted Mark, too, to feel God's love.
