Back pain lost, fitness regained
Right before I began studying Christian Science, I was really fit, exercising with the help of a personal trainer and eating all the "right" things. Then I ruptured a spinal disk and had to spend a week in bed to recover. I found this frustrating. My back used to go out once or twice a year, causing me to spend a day in bed. The only thing doctors could suggest to avoid this was careful exercise, which I had been doing. So I had been doing all the right things, but found myself worse off than before.
Then I began to study Christian Science. The next time my back went out, I sought Christian Science treatment instead of returning to the exercises the doctor had recommended. I was grateful that my back was healed—not just for that episode, but for good. I stopped bothering to exercise.
A few years ago, I was struck by the Bible quotation, "Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Cor. 6:20). I didn't really understand how I should glorify God in my body, so I prayed, asking God to show me.
