Making an entrance
At the height of Lilia Skala's fame as an actress in the movies, it was said, "Most people enter a room. Lilia makes an entrance."
Lilia made an entrance into her granddaughter Libby's life when Libby was just a week old. She wrote a letter welcoming her into the family, and telling her how much she loved her and was looking forward to their life together.
Hundreds more letters followed in the 27 years during which their paths crossed, and the spirit of this correspondence is at the heart of the one-woman stage presentation, Lilia!, in which Libby Skala, now a writer/performer in her own right, offers an amusing yet deeply moving portrait of her famous grandmother. Libby plays herself and her grandmother, without changing costumes or makeup.
