CHRISTMAS DAWNS—fresh light on the season

"Your hands are blessed." As a bride visiting my new family in Egypt, I learned to say this phrase in Arabic to thank the hostess for a lovely meal.
Twenty years later, when my brother-in-law, Amir, escorted me to the table in his home in Cario, he said something in Arabic, and everyone laughed. My husband translated for me. "There is no insist."
