Burn healed through prayer
Originally published in Der Christian Science Herold
I was about 18 when I had my very first spiritual healing. I was home alone on a cold winter evening. At that time, we lived in a one-family house with an outmoded coal central-heating system. I was sitting there with a lot of homework to do, not feeling as warm as I would have liked. So I went down into the basement and shoveled a lot of coal into the furnace. Then I went back upstairs and returned to my studies.
After about ten minutes, I heard a terrible noise in the heating pipes. I began to feel pretty uneasy, so I went down to the basement thinking, "What are you going to do now?" The thought occurred to me, "Pour some water in the boiler." I wanted to dampen the fire a bit. So I took a large clay pot, filled it with water, and poured it in. Immediately, a huge tongue of flame shot out and burned my right hand very badly.
I had only a slight understanding of Christian Science at the time, but I remembered from Science and Health, that God had never left a place for accidents in His perfect creation (See p. 424). Suddenly a happy thought came to me—that God is ever present and fills all space.
