How can you help fight the fires?
Some answers from a volunteer firefighter
IF YOU CAN'T WORK with those crews in Colorado and Arizona, and other western states, you can still do something now that might help prevent fires five years down the road. Start with yourself. Remember that wherever we live or work or take our recreation, we are responsible for our actions—or inaction.
Think about where you build a house or a campfire, or what you do with a match.
If you live in a city, you can show respect for the environment right where you are. Raise consciousness among friends and fellow citizens on the value of their natural heritage. Draw their attention to the beauty that's around them. Talk to children about it. Be available.
