From self-interest to the common good
A conversation with Nancy Roof
"When world leaders move from self-interest—or religious self-interest—to consider the common good of everyone on the planet, regardless of religion or race, then the whole world will move into a new spiritual civilization," said Nancy Roof, Ph.D., during a recent appearance on the Web site spirituality.com.
She said that we are living in increasingly complex and dangerous times, in which we are facing global problems that require global solutions. "It's a time of transition that is primarily a crisis in consciousness—a crisis that requires a new kind of spirituality."
Ms. Roof is editor of the journal Spirituality and Reality: New Perspectives on Global Issues, published twice a year in New York. In the 1990s, she was co-founder of the Values Caucus and also the Spiritual Caucus at the United Nations.
