I'd like you to meet Bezalel

Bezalel is not the most familiar name in the Bible, but for many years Bezalel has had a special place in my heart. And I am certain that he had a giant place in the heart of his leader, Moses.

The book of Exodus includes the lengthy instructions God gave to Moses, regarding the construction and decoration of the tabernacle where people would worship Him. But this kind of work was not Moses' forte. And we can be sure that it was with some relief that Moses was informed by God; "See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: and I have filled him with divine spirit, with ability, intelligence, and knowledge in every kind of craft, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, in every kind of craft" (Ex. 31:2–5, NRSV).
