Spiritual healing—a family affair

When Richard and Heidi Biever  were music students at Indiana University, they may not have thought that today they would both be Christian Science practitioners, with full-time jobs praying for people. But that's what they've ended up doing, after working in theater in New York City, teaching musical theater in State College, Pennsylvania ... and having two children, Marshall and Madeline. In times of sickness or injury, the Bievers have chosen to rely on prayer to heal their family. And they've found prayer to be very effective.

When you were growing up, did you turn to God for healing?

Heidi: Yes, it was very natural in my family because of an experience experience my great-grandmother had with one of her children. In fact, that's what brought us to the ideas explained in Mary Baker Eddy's book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. The child was suffering with pneumonia. The doctor said that if she caught pneumonia again, she would die. Well, she did catch it, and my great-grandmother was desperate. She asked a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. And her daughter was healed.
