David learns how God can heal him

WHEN OUR SON David was ten years old, he had what looked like a deformed knuckle on the middle finger of his right hand. Over a period of two years this growth had developed, and it got to a point where he couldn't bend the finger, and it became painful.

Both David and I had prayed about this for some time, when I decided to take him to see a Christian Science practitioner in Chicago. He spoke privately with the practitioner for about 15 minutes, and when he came out, he said, "Mom, I feel better already." The pain completely disappeared, but over the next two months he was teased by his classmates about having a deformed finger, because the big lump on the side of his knuckle was still there.

In October, a couple of months after he'd seen the practitioner down in Chicago, our church had a lecture on Christian Science for our community. David went up to the lecturer afterward and told her about something else—getting kicked in the heel when he was playing soccer. He said he could hardly walk because his heel hurt so bad, and asked the lecturer to pray about this for him.
