Healing after a car accident

Translated from Portuguese

About nine years ago, on a Sunday, my husband, my daughter, my son-in-law, my granddaughter, and I were driving home from a trip. It was raining heavily, and we were on a winding mountain road. Suddenly, a truck appeared around a corner, traveling in the opposite direction, in our lane. My son-in-law, who was driving, tried in vain to avoid being struck, and went off the highway. The crash occurred right where I was sitting. Our car spun around a few times and rested on a rock. At that moment I thought, "God is present." I fainted for a few seconds, but quickly came to. Four other cars were also involved in the accident.

We were all rushed to the nearest emergency room, in an ambulance. My family was fine, but I was in a lot of pain, couldn't move my left arm, and was spitting blood. I was advised to check into the hospital, but I asked to be taken home. I'm grateful that everybody accepted my decision.

When I got home, I immediately called a Christian Science practitioner for help in prayer. I couldn't speak properly and wasn't able to explain the situation, but she assured me that she would pray for me, and affirmed that my life did not depend on blood and bones, but only on God. These ideas eliminated all the fear I was feeling. For one week I was not able to lie down, and could only take in liquid nourishment, though with great difficulty. I spent the whole time sitting up, reading the Bible and Science and, Health, and always thanking God, because I had a lot for which to be grateful: the car hadn't been thrown off the cliff; although a lot of gasoline had been spilled, there was no fire; and my family was intact. But, in spite of the constant prayerful treatment I was receiving from the practitioner, I wasn't getting better.
