Gratitude squelches fear

My husband and I had decided to purchase a new motor home. While we were talking with the salesman about its features, our six-year-old daughter asked if she could go inside the home until we finished. It was extremely windy that day, so I said she could, and we continued our outside tour of the vehicle.

Suddenly there was a huge gust of wind, a loud bang, and then screaming. The wind had torn the heavy opened door from its securing latch, and had slammed it shut so hard that it had bounced back open again. Our daughter was standing in the doorway, her hand in the frame of the door. I ran to her, and climbed inside. We were both afraid.

I remembered that Christ Jesus had said to his disciples, "When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; andthy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly" (Matt. 6:6). To me, this closet is a quiet place in my thinking where I can commune with God without distraction. In this holy place we can immediately find all the help we need.
