STRENGTH TO MOVE FORWARD

Not long before Thanksgiving my mother found herself stranded away from home in North Carolina, because my dad was struggling for his life in a nearby hospital. She was grateful for the Baptist hospice where she stayed overnight and which provided her with a ride to and from the hospital.

When Dad took a sudden turn for the worse, I was at work. I frantically made flight arrangements. A friend had just arrived from overseas and sat down at my desk to offer a comforting thought. She assured me that God was already there with my dad and my mom. I held on to this thought.

I was grateful for the chaplain at the Presbyterian hospital, who had virtually not left my mother's side all day. When I arrived, the chaplain told me my dad hadn't made it. The kindness and understanding on her face were so genuine. I felt love for her and her ability to comfort others.
