Perfect vision through prayer

Some years ago when I was a student in high school, I was diagnosed as having astigmatism. I wore glasses and, later, contact lenses. Then at college I studied for a degree that involved a lot of reading. During this time my vision grew worse.

At this point I remembered a book that my brother had once given me—Science and Health. At that time, I had learned from the book that I was a child of the infinite Mind and not a miserable sinner. This made me feel as though I had been brought out of a prison cell and set free. I decided to read the book again and really think about what it said.

I studied the question, "What is man?" in the chapter "Recapitulation," which says, "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness. The likeness of Spirit cannot be so unlike Spirit. Man is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science" (p. 475).
