Editor's note

The urgent and growing demands placed on The Christian Science Publishing Society over recent weeks have made it clear that the Journal, Sentinel, and Herald Editorial Department needs to operate in a more flexible, responsive, and timely way. Editorial lead time needs to be reduced, process streamlined, and organizational structure simplified. In a word, the Christian Science periodicals need to be "ably edited and kept abreast of the times," as their founder, Mary Baker Eddy, envisioned (Church Manual, p. 44).

In this connection, some organizational changes have been made, as of October 1. Each of the magazines, as well as broadcasting, is now headed by a managing editor who will direct the editorial operations in Boston. The Journal's Managing Editor is Gail Gilliland. The print Sentinel's is Steve Graham; the broadcast Sentinel's, Russ Gerber. The Herald's Managing Editor is Heloísa Rivas, with Michael Seek continuing as Managing Editor of the German Herald, Enrique Smeke of the Spanish Herald, Leide Lessa of the Portuguese Herald, Cornelia Schacht of the Russian Herald, and Susan Beck of the quarterly Heralds.

Rob Gilbert and Cyril Rakhmanoff, who served as Associate Editors, have left their posts to return to their fields of healing practice and teaching. Before coming to The Mother Church as Manager of the Board Research, Development, and Projects Department, Rob served for many years as the Committee on Publication for Southern California. Cyril has worked over the years as Field Assistant for the Department of Branches and Practitioners, a member of the Board of Lectureship, Producer of the French radio edition of The Herald of Christian Science, and Managing Editor of the print edition of the French Herald.
