BILLS PAID. PRAISE THE LORD!

I was feeling stressed. I was treasurer of my church, and the job wasn't going particularly well. We were frequently short of funds to pay the staff's salaries. In fact, it looked as though salaries would have to go unpaid again this month, as they had so many other times. As I sat staring at the checkbook, I turned to God and asked Him what to do.

The first thought that came to me was, "This isn't Principle!" I realized that if I accepted that God is divine Principle, which I did, I must be willing to act as though He is—to do what is just and right. And it was neither just nor right for employees to have to wait to be paid. Also, it occurred to me that not only must I be willing to do what is right, but that in doing so I was placing myself under the government of the one perfect Principle, God. No harm can come from being governed by God, since God is good. Reasoning that doing what is right results in good, I wrote out the checks.

Within a couple of weeks, the church received a large refund for heating oil that more than convered the checks I had written. Also, during this period we had a constant supply of funds for our other bills. As a matter of fact, for the rest of my term as treasurer, we never again had to leave salaries unpaid.
