What meets our needs
Sometimes one's supply comes in unexpected ways.
God, Divine Mind, is our actual source of supply. Income, a spiritual concept, manifests that supply and is unlimited. If we believe that our income is merely an outcome of employment, which may at times be inadequate or tenuous, we open the door to being afraid that our actual supply is limited.
In the Bible, supply was thought of in a way entirely different from how most people see it today. Moses, who was always obedient to God, knew that God would supply every need of the children of Israel as they made their way through the desert. When food was scarce, God sent manna for the people to eat, and they drank water that sprang from a rock when Moses struck it (see Ex., chaps. 16 and 17).
Elisha demonstrated the concept of unfailing supply in meeting the needs of a widow woman. When she was threatened with losing her sons to slavery, Elisha instructed her to borrow as many vessels from her neighbors as she could, and to pour into them from a pot of oil (see II Kings, chap. 4). She and her sons poured and poured, and filled all the vessels. The account continues, "And the oil stayed." She sold what she needed to in order to pay off their debt, and lived on the rest. Thus her needs were permanently met.
