Fearless in the face of crisis

Prayers in response to last year's embassy bombing

On August 7, 1998, in my country, there was a devastating bombing in the city of Nairobi. The news was full of reports of those who had died and of pictures of the maimed. But as I prayed for my country, the flow of God's ideas was stronger than the shock of these events.

I knew from experience that prayer is effective to resolve any crisis. I thought about the real news going on right then, replacing violence and tragedy with the compassion of Love's healing power. God is Love. I prayed to see that divine Love can never be diminished. In every land affected by crisis, only this spiritual cause is actually in control, not misery and disaster. God's hand is quietly and irreversibly at work through the thoughts and lives of His children.

A friend suggested that "devil-worshipers" caused the bombing. But it was ignorance, pride, self-will, and egotism that were behind the bomb blast.
