To Our Readers

Turn on the television, open almost any magazine, and you'll find advertisements, advice columns, the latest reports—all highlighting the currently accepted causes, effects, and treatments for stress. Stress seems to be a common part of everyday existence in the fast-paced, got-to-get-ahead, no-time-for-quiet society in which we live and work.

But there's one thing that most of the ads and reports don't talk about when it comes to dealing with stress. You don't hear much about prayer and our relationship to God. In this week's Cover Story, contributing editor Jan Keeler draws on an important example in the Bible to show what Jesus taught. She writes of the vital importance of seeking spiritual understanding and coming closer to God. Here is the peace that can't be taken away, the answer to dealing with stress—and eliminating it.

Also this week, you'll find an article on where the strength and support you need come from, if you're caring for someone else on the road to healing. There are articles on overcoming the limitations of "old" thinking, on healing addiction, on how we can pray effectively for our world in meeting the threats to national and global security. This week's editorial challenges indifference.
