STRESS HEADACHES HEALED
A friend of mine became the main breadwinner in her family. Her husband had started his own business, they had a home mortgage, her business was growing, and the children had financial as well as emotional, educational, and social needs. Time, money, and energy seemed very limited. She began to have headaches, which became constant for many months. Though feeling under great stress, she continued to press on because she felt she had to.
One day it was as though she woke up. She decided to take Jesus' counsel to Martha seriously. It was time for her to make different choices with her though and to choose the good part, the truth about God and herself. She began by committing her thought to observing the many ways throughout the day that God was letting her know that He loved her. Seeing God's love in her life was a spiritual skill she wanted to exercise. She also decided to be more grateful, including giving thanks for every task that was accomplished in her day.
She began to understand that fatigue came from believing that she was working independently of God. And she saw that it wasn't a matter of rolling up her sleeves and working harder; it was a spiritual exercise in seeing God as the source of all good. Neither she nor her husband was ever the source of provision. It was divine Love that was constantly providing for them and perfectly husbanding their entire experience.
