Father overcomes fear; child walks without pain

Many years ago, I arrived in New York City from Brazil, searching for a better life. I was searching for truth in my own way, as I always felt an emptiness and could not understand my connection to my family's religion. One day in October 1986, I met a bright girl who gave me the real beginning of a great adventure in my life. She was a Christian Scientist. I was impressed with her positive outlook—she could see a solution to a difficulty through her trust in God. A little more than a year later, we married. When we had become engaged, I had agreed that we would raise our children as Christian Scientists. Though I saw Christian Science as a wonderful way of life, I still relied on medicine for myself, and it was a few years more before I became a serious student of this truth.

It has been a long journey from where I was when I left Brazil all those years ago to where I am today.
