YOUR LETTERS

"What I love about the new Sentinel is its complete embrace of the world."

What I love about the new Sentinel is its complete embrace of the world—of each one, in every place. Its message is much too big to fit in the purse, typifying divine Love's largess, encompassing us all.

In the "Items of Interest" (Feb. 1), the item on "Salvation and redemption in prison" included this statement: "Prisons are for punishment ..." This reminded me of an item I once read in The Christian Science Monitor that made a great impression on me. It was about an enlightened prison governor whose maxim was, "Prisoners are sent to prison as punishment, not for punishment." This answered for me the vexing question of the purpose of prison and of how prison regimes should be focused—on rehabilitation.
