Never helpless in the face of disease
Healing—here and now
You don't need to give in to despair if you feel helplessly ill. There is a proven way to attain health. This way is the truth Christ Jesus lived and practiced. His words, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," point to an unchanging divine law that one can turn to with certainty (John 8:32).
This everlasting promise of help and healing was proved again in my life several summers ago. The local media were filled with reports of a debilitating and sometimes fatal disease said to be caused by the bite of a particular woodland insect in our area. One day not long after I had been tramping through some dense woods behind our house, I became aware that I had some of the symptoms of this disease.
I didn't feel desperate, because I'd been healed of illnesses in the past through understanding more about man as God's perfect child, made in His image and likeness. This truth, which permeates Jesus' teachings, is powerful. I knew that nothing can alter or harm God's creation. I affirmed that God, man's loving creator, had not caused this pain and disability, and that as God's child, I must reflect—and was reflecting right then—God's knowledge of His law of perfection.
