Loving prayers avert suicide attempt

I was alone at the hospital when my mother passed on as a result of an automobile accident that had left her unconscious. I had spent the better part of the summer dealing with work, family, doctors, nurses, and visiting her. Family members from out of town had been down to help, but had needed to return to their duties. A Christian Science practitioner was treating me, and I called her from the hospital.

It was late in the evening, and after making the necessary calls to family members, I was faced with a long drive home, alone. I will never forget that drive. The urge to drive off the road at full speed was a palpable force. Later it was clear to me that this temptation was an outside force, the miasma of mortal mind. More forceful than this urge, however, was a gentle "voice" encouraging me to stay the course, to ignore the destructive urge, and to be where I was needed.
