Full recovery from severe illness and injury
I feel I'm beginning to understand in some measure that because God is Love, love is an absolutely essential ingredient in every case of genuine and lasting Christian healing. A little more love goes a long way in healing!
One afternoon I suddenly became extremely ill with some sort of intestinal trouble. I couldn't leave the bathroom and was struggling to stay conscious. I was praying for myself and trying to get to the telephone to call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. In the midst of my dire need, I realized that there was a severe storm with high winds, lightning, and torrential rains going on outside, and that my son would be walking home from the train station in a few minutes.
He was a young adult and could certainly make the walk by himself, but I couldn't help but think of the extreme weather, and of how difficult it would be to be out in it. I felt I should take the car and pick him up. I began to pray along these lines: God is Love, and I am the expression of His love. Nothing can stop me from loving to the fullest extent. No sickness can deprive me of my right to express the love of God. This illness is no part of me, God's loved child. It does not have power to linger, or to control my loving and giving.
