Multiple growths removed through prayer

A few years ago our young daughter had unnatural growths on her body. Although they did not appear to be causing her any discomfort, I alerted my husband. We felt sure that the condition could be healed through prayer. In my prayers I affirmed her real self to be created by God, to be immortal and wholly spiritual, not found in a little mortal body, in spite of appearances to the contrary.

When it appeared that the growths were enlarging and multiplying, I called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. God's child embodies the purity and perfection of Spirit, regardless of what the physical senses tell us. Christ Jesus emphasized the importance of considering our thoughts, insisting "Cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also" (Matt. 23:26).

The practitioner reminded me that a material condition is a picture in thought, so for a true cure we must deal with thought. She urged me to hold to the perfection of God's child and to reject the limited view that we are merely mortal personalities. My fear abated, and both the child and I grew morally and spiritually. Since the physical condition persisted, I continued to pray in earnest.
