Adoption proceeds smoothly
Last summer, my husband and I decided to adopt a baby. The decision was clear and felt right. After I pondered some of the ideas from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy that were relevant to child, children, and adoption, it was so clear to me that since God is the only true parent, I could love and nurture the infant's real identity as God's spiritual idea and appreciate him to the fullest. My husband was also receptive to this inspired thought.
We had heard from many people how difficult adopting a newborn baby in the United States could be. "It could take years" is what we were told. But we would not accept the suggestion that the adoption had to be a difficult and long process. We turned away from any suggestion that wasn't from God, good, and prayed to understand that because our sense of family was already established, our child was always in his right place. We knew we did not need to feel anxious about the adoption process, as God was directing us every step of the way. And not surprisingly, within three and a half months of our beginning the adoption process, we were notified that a little baby would be born in our own city in three weeks, and he was to be ours! Science and Health tells us, "Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way" (p. 326). This sentence proved to be absolutely true!
We felt divine Love's presence daily, in every aspect of the adoption process. Psalm 100 carried me through the three-week period while we were eagerly awaiting our infant. I found this verse especially helpful: "Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture" (verse 3). The child, whom I loved already, was being governed and protected by God, his Shepherd. I prayed to know that all was in place, that Love would carry us all the way through to the finalization of this adoption, and that this right idea would bless all who were involved. I cannot thank enough the Christian Science practitioner who responded to my call for treatment with love and just the right message to keep me focused on God's love for us all.
