Severe burn quickly healed
In September 1995, while cleaning up the kitchen after supper, I happened to lay my hand flat on an electric stove burner that had just gone black after being turned off. I immediately reached out to know that God was with me and I could never be separated from Him, that Love fills all space. I knew that it was important not to be impressed by the material picture and to keep thought calm. I didn't look at my hand or inspect the injury. I simply washed my hands with water and patted them dry. By this time discomfort was quite evident.
I refuted the suggestion that I had been burned and reached for the telephone to call a Christian Science practitioner. She immediately reminded me that accidents are unknown to God, as Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (see p. 424). I went on about my regular duties in caring for an elderly relative who was staying in my home at that time and made no mention of the incident. Throughout the evening as I continued to refute each suggestion of burn, I clung to the spiritual fact that God is omnipresent and omnipotent, that Love fills all space, that I could never be separated from God who created all. I knew that I was "the king's daughter"—"all glorious within" (Ps. 45:13).
