"Actions speak louder..."

Report on youth conference that explored ways to overcome racism and classism

For six hours on a crisp January morning, more than two hundred students from twenty-seven high schools and community organizations in the greater Boston area explored ways to overcome racism and classism in their schools and communities.

The gathering was sponsored by The National Conference of Christians and Jews—a human relations organization committed to "fighting bigotry, bias, and racism in society, through knowledge, awareness, and dialogue."

Group discussions and workshops ranged over the challenges of inner-city living, cultural differences, economic status, stress, Scriptural interpretation, the role of sports, and the power of prayer to heal racism, classism, and injustice.
