From neutral to high gear
Five important aspects of prayer to help get your life moving.
Our Daughter was busy in the Kitchen when she heard her own youngest daughter making cross noises. She went to investigate and found little Grace sitting on the stairs, one foot caught in the cuff of her overalls. In her limited, toddler vocabulary, she wailed, "Tuck! Tuck!" With her mom's help, Grace was quickly unstuck and back to her sunshiny self again.
Grown-ups sometimes feel cross, too, even hopeless. Being stuck seems to be their lot—lives moving along at a cold molasses rate or hitched to problems like files to flypaper. Whether entangled in a dysfunctional relationship, bogged down in a sputtering business, or confined by chronic illness, the human heart cries out, "Why is this happening to me?"
There is no end to theories as to why. Many say genes decide how much intelligence we'll have, what emotional tendencies we can expect, whether or not we'll enjoy good health. Others claim early environment can mark the fate of folks forever.
