Prayer eliminates extreme fear
I've had many healings of physical difficulties through the study of Christian Science, including an injured knee that made walking very difficult, severe back pain at a time when I needed to move my workplace, recurring headaches, and earaches. I have also had many healings of fear, relationship difficulties, and inharmonious situations. Through these healings and daily proofs, large and small, I learn more of how God guards, guides, loves, and cares for me and all of His children. I would like to share two healings that stand out to me.
The Bible says, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear" (I John 4:18). As a child, and even into adulthood, I was terrified by storms. Living in an area where violent summer storms frequently occur certainly offered many opportunities to overcome this fear. While attending a Christian Science Sunday School I learned about God's great love and protection. This was helpful, but each time a storm occurred I was frightened and barely able to function.
For a long time I studied the Bible along with Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, prayed constantly, and several times had treatment from Christian Science practitioners. There seemed to be small improvements, but never any substantial progress. About this time a close relative became quite ill. It was necessary to help with the care of this loved one. During many challenging months, I consistently held to the fact that God was caring for the loved one as well as for me. Every day I prayed to express a purer sense of love—prayed to reflect God's love for His precious children. This family member was very dear to me, so I wanted to do all I could to help.
