Noah built a boat, and his descendants, a giant tower
Many people helped write the accounts in the Hebrew Bible, or Old Testament, Most of these stories had been shared from one generation to another. The people who later wrote them down often added their own insights. The story of Noah and the flood (see Genesis, chapters 6–9:17) combines two versions of the same account. Some of the details of these two versions are different, but both show the blessings that came from Noah's love for God.
Noah was obedient to God. Certainly, he would have taught his three sons—Shem, Japheth, and Ham—to be obedient to God, too. But almost everyone else at that time did not listen to God. Many people were unkind and hurt others. The Bible says, "The earth ... was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence" (Gen. 6:11).
Yet Noah did not act in mean, hurtful ways. The Bible says that "Noah walked with God" (Gen. 6:9). In this case, "walking" means living a life that pleases God.
