Healing and protection while traveling overseas
During July and August of 1995 we toured Europe by car. While in Germany I was suddenly seized by intense abdominal pain that forced me to go to a hotel and go to bed. After my wife and I had prayed for several hours, I felt I should telephone a Christian Science practitioner. I was in such pain that I don't remember exactly what he said. I do know that he reassured me and told me he would pray immediately.
Several years previously I'd had similar pain. Healing had occurred when I truly surrendered all struggling with personal feeling and let God's law of perfection and love eliminate my attitude of having to heal my body. This is what I continually do in my daily study of the Lesson-Sermon (found in the Christian Science Quarterly). I establish in my thought the allness and onliness of God, and my spiritual being as His likeness. After I spoke with the practitioner, it was as though a switch had been turned off. I hung up the phone, all pain stopped immediately, and I lay down and went to sleep. That was the end of the problem, and there has been no recurrence.
The next morning when we were preparing to leave, we couldn't find our money, our passports, traveler's checks, or credit cards. We searched thoroughly in the room and the car. Finally we called the manager and explained our predicament. From my experience of the previous evening, my wife and I both knew we were in God's care and could experience no loss. We knew that this difficulty would be no obstacle to a harmonious trip. The hotel manager took us to the local police, who gave us a document that would get us across the border into Austria. Knowing we had no money, as we were saying goodbye the hotel manager handed us a 100DM note (about $75 U.S.). When I asked if he wanted some security or a signed note, he said, "Don't worry about it and have a good trip." His kindness was much appreciated, and we were able to repay the money sooner than we expected.
