I attended a Christian Science Sunday School regularly from age nine to seventeen. I believe that I owe everything I am and have to the truth I was introduced to through the inspired teaching and unconditional love I received there.

During my college years and early twenties, I drifted away from living Christian Science as well as from church attendance because I erroneously thought I was missing out on "fun." When I had painted myself into a corner with seemingly no way out, I asked for help from a friend who was very active in a twelve-step program and had attained a degree of serenity. This friend took me to a meeting with him. When I realized that the people at the meeting were essentially turning their lives over to God's care and direction, I recalled that Christian Science treatment had healed me and family members throughout my childhood. I already had what I needed. I got out my copies of Science and Health and the Bible and began to pray. The Bible told me that it is God "who healeth all thy diseases" (Ps. 103:3), and I realized that God could heal me now.

That was the only meeting I attended, but it was the turning point for me because it turned me back to God. I was healed of alcohol addiction instantly. This happened over twenty-five years ago, and that experience launched me on a truly exciting adventure, the adventure of discovering more of God's love and care for His offspring. Even though I had been healed, however, I still didn't know if I could give effective Christian Science treatment.
