Several years ago, when I considered myself a "rookie" Christian Scientist, I was blessed with the opportunity of being a part of a wonderful healing that our youngest daughter experienced. She was almost three years old at the time, and my husband and I had just completed Primary class instruction in Christian Science the previous week.

Our daughter was helping me put away groceries when she dropped a full can of soda on her bare foot. As it fell, my first thought was "Oh, dear, that's going to hurt." However, in the next instant, when I picked her up to comfort her, I did not expect the injury I was faced with.

I sat her on the counter, trying to soothe her fear and stop the hysterical crying. When I looked down at the toe, I realized the can had fallen in such a way that it had nearly amputated the end of her toe. Immediately, I was aware of the need to correct my fear of serious injury. As I cleaned the injury, I calmed my child by singing the only hymn I knew all the words to: "'Feed My Sheep'" by Mary Baker Eddy (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 304). I sang it concentrating on the meaning of the words, praying all the while that I would know how best to help her. I continued to hold her and comfort her.
