When I was new to the study of Christian Science, my family...

When I was new to the study of Christian Science, my family and I visited a Christian Science practitioner as we were wanting to know more about God and spiritual healing. A few days later, a neighbour rang to say that our young son had ridden his bicycle straight into the wall of a shed and was on his way home with a large gash over his eye that would need attention. Immediately I rang the practitioner and asked her to pray for the boy. This dear lady explained to me that he was God's perfect child, never out of God's care, and that I could trust God to heal him.

When my son arrived, I cleaned up the wound and then explained that I had rung the practitioner and that we would now prayerfully trust in God for healing. During the night I continued to pray for the boy, knowing he was the perfect idea of God and could not be harmed in any way. The next morning I was woken by an excited child asking me to look, and saying he was healed! And so he was. The wound had completely closed. Very soon it could not even be seen. I was very grateful for this proof of God's care for His children.

Recently on a trip away from home I was overcome with homesickness and a feeling of separation from my family. I turned to God in prayer. As I reached out to Him, the angel message came that I was not on my own. I could never be separated from God's presence and love, because I was at one with Him. This made me see that neither, then, could I be separated from my family. We were all in God's presence. Then I went to the Bible. Here I read, "Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom" (I Kings 10:8). As a result of reading this verse I decided that I could be joyful and happy right where I was, right then. After all, I was working to stand before God and hear His wisdom.
