Dear Sentinel

Dear Sentinel,

Darnesha was just another girl in my eighth-grade history class. She had her friends, I had mine. Who would have guessed that we would be so close by the summer of 1995! We had been going together for almost two years at that point. I had been to her house on several occasions and we'd had a few opportunities to spend time together outside of school.

Her mom and dad got divorced and were living in different cities. Her family decided that the best place for her and her younger brother to live was with her grandmother. Her grandmother had eleven kids of her own and was very strict with Darnesha. Darnesha felt tied down and was unhappy living there. Her grandmother felt unappreciated. They both knew that it was time for new living arrangements. They decided she would live with her mother in a city five hundred miles away.
